Puerto Rico, the easternmost of the Greater Antilles of the Caribbean, has been a colony of the United States since 1898. A former Spanish colony, Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain to the United States along with Cuba and the Phillippines at the end of the Spanish-American war. The PR Independence Party, founded in 1946, seeks Puerto Rico's independence from USA by pacific means.
